Zeltiq (pronounced “zel-TEEK”) is a new non-invasive cosmetic procedure that cools fat, causing the fat to die, be reabsorbed and eliminated by the body. While Zeltiq isn’t for all over weight loss, it can be used to zap specific problem areas. One woman who had the procedure in Nashville said she lost “about a stick of butter” on each side of her back.

The procedure isn’t only for stubborn back fat, but other problem areas that don’t respond to diet and exercise. It is important to know that while Zeltiq is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for skin cooling and anesthetic uses, it isn’t yet approved for fat removal, though scientific studies are underway for those purposes.

Zeltiq can be used to treat fat bulges on the abdomen, sides, or back and costs about $1,000 to have one area treated. While patients can go directly back to work after the procedure, the final result can take some three months to become evident. During the procedure, a flap of skin is pressed between two plates cold enough to injure the underlying fat, but not cold enough to damage the top layer of skin. Over the next several weeks the fat breaks down, dies, and is reabsorbed and eliminated by the body.

This process is officially called cryolipolysis, and it works because our body cells react to heat and cold differently. The Zeltiq research has helped scientist learn more about how the fat cells in the body react to cold and how that can be used to achieve body contouring. When the device cools the area to be treated, the body reacts with an inflammatory response, causing the body to naturally get rid of the damaged fat cells. Noticeable results can be achieved this way.

Usually the procedure is done in a doctor’s office, with a supervising dermatologist or plastic surgeon. No anesthesia is necessary, and there is no recovery time. The tissue is drawn into a cup with mild vacuum pressure and cooled. Any sensation of cold goes away after 10 minutes or so. After several days, the cooled fat cells undergo a process called apoptosis and start shrinking. They are slowly digested over several months and removed through the liver. Love handles, back fat, and the so-called “man boobs” are common targets. The results are real, but modest, and are not a substitute for healthy eating and exercising.

Any side effects with Zeltiq are related to the cold of the device and usually go away within 10 minutes. The skin may stay red for a while. If the skin stays red for longer than several hours, patients are advised to call their doctors and report it. There may also be some temporary bruising, tenderness, tingling, or temporary numbness.

Everyone knows that busty is beautiful, right? This may be true, but women with enormous boobs will be the first to tell you that monstrous mammary glands can literally be a pain in the back.

A decade ago, women were flocking in their droves to the plastic surgeon’s office to get breast implants. Nowadays, the same women, plus many naturally well endowed others, are heading right back to the surgeon’s office for breast reduction surgery.

Reducing the size of breast implants is far more complex than simply removing the fat and tissue out of large, natural boobs. However, breast reduction surgery is so safe that it can be performed on people of any age.

If you’re still sitting on the fence, wondering whether to downsize your breasts, here is an overview of the top five benefits associated with breast reduction surgery.

1. Reduced Muscle Aches

Almost anyone with super-sized breasts will tell you how uncomfortable they feel. Additionally, the enormous strain created by hoisting extra weight around makes the back, the neck, and the shoulders permanently ache. Breast reduction surgery offers an excellent, merciful alternative under these circumstances. Not only does the chest region look more attractive, but the reduction in weight makes the whole body feel more relaxed.

2. Potential to Exercise

When your breasts are large, your sports bra is unable to function efficiently. You know that you’re going to be jiggling like a jack-in-the-box at the gym, so why bother? This factor alone is enough to confine many women to their couches. Even if you don’t care what other people think it is hard to play netball, football, or even perform yoga poses when you have so much excess baggage on your chest. Not only will breast reduction surgery alleviate back pain, but it will also inspire you to exercise more – a delightful double-whammy for your health.

3. Higher Self-Esteem

It’s hard to feel good about your perfect personality when men only want to speak to your boobs. Aside from that, women with excessive cleavage are often unfairly labeled as being unreliable, unintelligent, and promiscuous, according to the results of several research studies. Thus, breast reduction surgery may help you attract better-quality dates, eliminate unwanted attention, and maybe even snag you a husband!

4. Better Looking Clothing

Big-breasted women are often forced to shop at plus size clothing outlets – even if the rest of their body is of normal size. Then, they end up in a quandary: should they go for baggy and look fat or go for skin-tight and look morally questionable? Breast reduction surgery can really put your body back into proportion. This means that you can wear pretty tops, beautiful bikinis, and lovely blouses, without worry!

5. Lose The Strap Marks

Women with average-sized breasts experience sunshine-induced strap marks on the beach in summertime. Women with huge boobs experience weight-induced strap marks on a daily basis. The sheer weight of the breasts pulls the bra downward, almost embedding it into the shoulder. Ugly, painful ridges are created and rashes may form in or around these areas. Not only will breast reduction surgery enable you to buy pretty lingerie, but it will also alleviate soreness and uneven skin levels on your shoulders.

Breast reduction surgery boasts marvelous results, but it isn’t for everyone. If you have questions or concerns about the surgery or what to expect, feel free to call your doctor.

In general, women are not in favor of a breast reduction surgery as social trends indicate that medium or large breasts are more popular with the opposite sex. Also, there are very few men who will support their wives or girlfriends decision to undergo this procedure were it not a matter of life and death.

With so many people going under the knife to increase the size of their breasts, it is more common for women to opt for a breast enhancement surgery than for a Reduction Mammaplasty. However, Reduction Mammaplastys are now being seen with favor by women with very large breasts, who experience some amount of discomfort because of their large chest size. Reduction Mammaplasty, which is the technical term for a breast reduction surgery has a number of different benefits, and is slowly becoming popular according to a UK breast reduction surgery.

The procedure takes place with the surgeon removing breast implants, fat, glandular tissue and skin in order to reduce the size of the breasts. This surgery is also useful when the patient is growing a bit old and their breasts have begun to sag.

Recently scientists have discovered yet another reason that favors reduction mammaplasty, and this factor is definitely worth considering. During the process of the surgery, the surgeon typically removes certain quantities of fat and tissue. These can then be tested in order to find out if the patient has breast cancer. Since these tests take place well before the discovery of a lump, breast cancer can be detected at a very early stage and then be removed. This is a relatively new finding, having been released only in October 2009 at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons conference.

According to the study conducted, around 12% of all the patients who undergo breast reduction surgery possibly have abnormal pathologies, which indicates an increased risk of succumbing to breast cancer, which is a terrible disease that threatens the lives of many women. Another advantage is that this method has proved to be more cost efficient, where reduction mammaplasty patients of all ages are screened, rather than just women over 40 who are recommended to have a mammography routinely. While 12% may not seem like a very large number, especially given that there are not as many women who undergo breast reduction surgery as those who get breast augmentation, it is still a sizable number and detecting cancer early could definitely be the difference between life and death for these women.

According to Kristin Stueber, who co-authored the study “We are in a time in medicine when cost is an important factor. Pressure from insurance companies and general administrators often force physicians to consider the cost of care when treating a patient. However, detecting breast cancer as early as possible reduces treatment costs and saves lives. In the end, we found that although it may cost more up-front to screen each breast reduction patient for cancer, we saved money and helped patients to get treatment sooner.” She also added “If we were to limit our pathologic examination of breast tissue to breast reduction patients older than 40, we would fail to identify 20 percent of moderate to high risk pathology, which is simply not an acceptable risk. Besides the potential cost savings in testing, the cost for treating a cancer patient down the road is certainly more than any savings we could produce in the short term.”

Although this does seem like a compelling reason for women with large breasts to undergo breast reduction surgery, such a decision may not receive much support from husbands and boyfriends.

If this procedure becomes popular in the next few years, more women will follow the trend set by celebrities like Drew Barrymore and Queen Latifah who all underwent breast reduction surgery.

Plastic surgeons routinely use dermal, or cosmetic fillers, to smooth the effects of wrinkles and aging on the skin of the face and neck. Usually, these cosmetic fillers are injected into a specific area of the face with a syringe. Whereas in the United States dermal fillers are classified as medication and require a prescription, in the UK, they are classified only as a medical device, which means that they are quite easy for anyone to obtain. Many of these products are being sold over the internet, where it is difficult to trace exactly where the products are coming from and who is selling them.

Unregulated Substances

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) recently issued a warning against the use of these cosmetic fillers purchased online. BAAPS warns that DIY cosmetic fillers are dangerous because of the unknown and unregulated substances they contain. There is a danger that the substances are not what they claim to be or that they are improperly diluted, which can also result in life threatening complications for the user.

Risk of Facial Paralysis

In addition, the degree of skill and the knowledge of human anatomy that are required to properly inject the fillers make them unsuitable for home use. Plastic surgeons spend years learning about facial anatomy and learning how to properly inject cosmetic fillers. The human face is very complex, and the correct place to inject a dermal filler may be only millimeters away from a place that could cause permanent damage. In the US, one death has even been reported from the use of these cosmetic filler kits.

Professional Clinics are Much Safer

People are putting themselves at great risk by purchasing online cosmetic fillers and undergoing what is essentially home cosmetic surgery – but without the presence of a surgeon. The dangers of permanent disfigurement and paralysis of the facial muscles or even death are much greater than the risks associated with having these procedures done professionally.

The conclusion is that it is much safer to work with an experienced UK plastic surgery clinic, such as Transform, the UK’s largest plastic surgery clinic for more than 30 years. Professionals advise against performing such dangerous experiments at home. In addition, going to a clinic also dramatically reduces the risk of complications resulting from this type of procedure. In the interest of public safety, BAAPS is also calling for more extensive regulation of these cosmetic surgery related products in the UK.
